Bushfire Prepare is a community-focused program that helps reduce the risk and impact of bushfires by supporting local landholders to manage vegetation on their properties.
What We Do
Reduce Bushfire Risk
We support safe, practical fuel management on private land – helping to lower bushfire risk and protect homes, properties, and the environment.
Strengthen Community Partnerships
We bring together residents, community groups, Councils, and emergency services to improve coordination and build strong, local partnerships focused on bushfire safety.
Build Knowledge and Resilience
We help residents understand bushfire risk and empower them to be part of decision-making – so our community is better prepared, informed, and more resilient.

Resilient Homes Expo 2026
Bushfire Prepare is heading to the Resilient Homes Expo in Lexton on Sunday 11 October. Join us for a free day of expert advice, practical demonstrations and hands-on activities focused on creating safer, more resilient homes and properties. Hosted by special guest MC Costa Georgiadis, the Expo brings together emergency services, industry experts and community organisations to share ideas on bushfire preparedness, sustainable living and disaster resilience.
Visit the Bushfire Prepare team to learn about local workshops, property planning, preparedness resources and simple actions you can take to reduce bushfire risk around your home. Whether you’re just getting started or looking to build on existing knowledge, there’s something for everyone.

Cardinia Shire Council for “Bushfire Prepare”
Residential properties constitute a significant proportion of bushfire risk within the Cardinia Shire.
Bushfire Prepare provides a collaborative, educational and empowering approach to private landowners wanting to reduce bushfire fuel on their property.
This initiative was developed as a tool to assist residents to:
· better understand their bushfire risks and build their capacity around decision making for bushfire risk mitigation
· broaden their understanding at their own pace, with support from facilitators if required.
Practical workshops allow participants to consolidate learnings and provide opportunities for practical application of knowledge and skills in a collaborative and safe environment.
Bushfire Prepare contributes to bushfire risk mitigation and supports new ways to work with community members and contribute to community resilience.
